The District Head Quarters is Thrissur.
It has a total land area of 3,032 Km and has the Population of 29,75,440. The Literacy rate of Thrissur is 92.56 %. Thrissur district was formed in the year 1949.

Chavakkad is the Taluk Headquarter of Chavakkad taluk, it includes places like Elavally, Venkitang, Engandiyoor, Vadekkekadu, Guruvayoor, Thycaud, Punnayurkulam, Manathala, Pavaratty, Pukkodu, Mullasserry, Valappatt, Thalikulam, Nattika, Orumanayur, Punayur and Vadanapilly.

Kodungallore is the Taluk Headquarter of Kodungallore taluk and it includes places like Azhikode, Pullut, Edathuruthy, Periganam, Edavilangu, Methala, Lokamaleswaram, Poyya, Eriyad, Pappinavattom, Kaippamangalam and Sree Narayanapuram.

Vadakkamcherry is the taluk headquarter of Thalappilly Taluk, it includes places like Aloor, Venganallure, Arthatt, Vadekkethara, Thiruvallamala, Chelakkara, Thekkumkara, Cheruthuruthy, Panjal, Chittanda, Mayannur, Chowa, Kunnamkulam, Desamangalam, Kattakambal, Elanadu, Kaniyarkode, Engakkat, Thichoor, Eyyal, Kurumala, Kadangodu, Karikatt, Kumaranallur, Mullorkara, Vadakkamcherry, Nelluvai, Pazhayannur and Varavoor,.

Thrissur’s southeast corner of the area extends up to Tamilnadu Border. It has an amazing shoreline of 54 Km. The area is marked by low lands as well as midland areas. The famous hills of Thrissur are Machanadu, Athirappilly, Athirappilly, Paravattani and Kodasserry. The rivers of Thrissur are Kecherri, Chalakudy and Karuvannur. It has a forest land area of 103,610 hectares.

Places of Attractions:
Athirapally & Vazhachal
Kerala has its own twinkling charm with attractive amusement parks and places of scenic beauty. The Dream World Water Park located at the break takes you to awesome beautiful scenic beauty of real Athirapally with mesmerizing waterfalls and glowing, inviting greenery. The place offers you 14 water rides to choose from, recently there is an inclusion of 5 new rides and there are around 8 dry rides.

Cheruthuruthy
The great Mahakavi Vallathol set up memorable 'Kerala Kalamandalam' at Cheruthuruthy in the year 1958. Well known writers, Kathakali artistes and singers grew up in this wonderful awe-inspiring village which is close to the river Kalpathy.

Guruvayoor
Guruvayoor is located at a distance of 33Km north of Thrissur. The place is famous for Shree Krishna temple, it is visited by tourists and locales too.

Kodungalloore
Kodungalloore is also known by the name Muzirins, the place is located at the confluence of Periyar. In olden days, it was an important International port mostly visited by Arabs, Romans and Jews. The place became famous for cultural confluence also.

Peechy
Peechy is famous for its wonderful attractive wildlife Sanctuary, there is the famous Vazhani dams which is famous hot spot for holiday makers. It was introduced in the year 1958 and spreads over 125 Sq.Km of area. Peechy is located at only 15 Km of distance from Thrissur.

Thrissur Pooram
Thrissur Pooram is one of the cultural highlights of the region, its is celebrated in the Malayalam month of “Medam”. The festival is truly fun-filled and exciting, it gives a good feast to your eyes and ears. It starts in the early hours of morning and continues till the noon of the next day.
