Palakkad’s has mostly all highranges with no seashore line as it has 960 km of western ghat which has a gap of 32 to 40 km. this determines the district’s weather and lifestyle. The gap is commonly known as 'Palakkad churam' through which the north east monsoon reaches Kerala. The gap bring together Kerala with other parts of India. The famous rivers of Palakkad are Bharatapuzha, Gayathri, Bhavani, Sisuvani, Kannadi, Thuthapuzha, Kalpathy and Chittoor puzha. The forest land area of Palakkad spreads to over 136,257 hectares of land.
